.5. 3 The Procedure of Proofreading审校

After finishing translating,a translator has to proofread his translation. We can say that proofreading actually is a procedure deepening stages of understanding and expressing.Following points should be considered in this stage.

)Examine whether some paragraphs, sentences, clauses, and words, etc.are left out.Scrutinize whether some names, places, dates, directions, numbers, etc.are neglected.Check out whether some errors in grammar, spelling or punctuations remain.

)Polishing is needed. The effective and useful way is to read the version several times to see whether it is expressive, fluent, harmonious, and wordy or not.

)Proofreading twice is necessary. We suggest that we proofread the version again after the first time proofreading if time permits.Sometimes we have such a feeling that when the version is put on the desk,we can still find some mistaken places after a while. If we proofread it once again, the version will have a chance to be more satisfactory.

)We should,if possible, ask someone else to proofread our translation. This is the best way to find errors in our translation. If it is a version from Chinese to English, you may ask one English speaker to proofread it.
