A Day in My Life
I get up at about 6: 15 each morning since I＇ve got a husband and four cats to feed，and a long way to drive; I like to do a quarter-hour of yoga，too．I＇m usually at the zoo by 8: 15．
Whenever possible，I use the first hour to go around the zoo．I walk or drive，and talk to the keepers and gardeners to see what＇s born，what＇s hatched，what＇s in bloom，what＇s been moved to somewhere else，because I have to write a news sheet about what＇s new at the zoo each month．
Already this morning I＇ve had a call from a TV channel to do some hot weather shots because of the predicted 40 degrees today; you know，elephants are hosing themselves down，seals swimming，penguins flapping in their pool．Animals are more sensible than we are．In the hot weather they don＇t rush around in ever-decreasing circles—they just swim or lie down in the shade．
By nine，the phone starts ringing constantly; I have countless calls each day，and every call is different．We get a lot of media requests from people wanting to borrow animals to appear on shows．Then there＇s the travel industry wanting zoo posters，people asking where to get feral pigs or dingoes for documentaries，overseas photographers asking for special permission to take pictures; they＇re very keen on our koalas and kangaroos．
I walk around a lot．Often one of the keepers is wanted instantly and can＇t be reached by phone—then I go and look for him．Taronga Zoo is quite hilly and in the first six months，I＇ve lost some weight．
